Why Pilates?

People may think that if they are experiencing pain resulting from an injury, degenerative or chronic conditions such as arthritis, or have undergone surgery, they would be unable to participate in a Pilates exercise program.  In fact, nothing could be further from the truth.  A Pilates exercise program taught by a properly trained instructor can be the ideal exercise approach to addressing musculoskeletal dysfunction.  A physical therapist trained in Pilates can combine the knowledge of musculoskeletal dysfunctions with the ability to modify exercises to create a Pilates program that allows a person to return to a strong, functional lifestyle, while decreasing or even eliminating pain.

A Pilates exercise program can help improve core stabilization, balance, coordination, postural awareness, strength, flexibility and overall improved mobility.

Pilates training is provided in private, semi-private and trio class sessions.  An initial fitness assessment is done in order to tailor sessions to each clients needs.  Exercises can be modified for musculoskeletal disorders.  Sessions last approximately 55 minutes.

"Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness.  Our interpretation of physical fitness is the attainment and maintenance of a uniformly developed body with a sound mind, fully capable of naturally, easily and satisfactorily performing our many and varied daily tasks with spontaneous zest and pleasure."
